Abdominoplasty, more commonly referred to as a tummy
tuck, is a surgical procedure intended to flatten the
abdomen, creating a more toned look and improving
the patient's overall physical profile.
The surgery, usually performed
on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or
local with sedation, begins with the placement of an
incision at the lower part of the abdomen. In this
position, any scars will later be easily hidden, even
by swimming garments. Excess tissue, fat, and skin
are removed, the abdominal muscles are tightened, and
the remaining skin is readjusted to a tighter, flatter
position.
Most Washington DC tummy tuck
patients can return to work about 2-4 weeks after having
the surgery, depending on the extent of work done and
various health matters. It is usually advisable for
patients to postpone strenuous activitiy for at least
4-6 weeks. Of course, every surgical procedure involves
a degree of potential risks. Being aware of these risks,
and discussing them with your doctor, will help decrease
the potential for them.
